If you mean "do i need Tomcat to serve java files" then the answer is no you dont need Tomcat, serving jad and jar files works just fine without any java vm at all on the webserver.

For JAD files..
.jad = text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor

For JAR files...
.jar = application/java-archive
and / or
.jar = application/x-java-archive

thanks a lot... does that mean i can use the httpd?!
