I rank pretty low on the expert pole. But from all the prior threads and reading, No.

If the data is important enough to need a password, then the data stream should also be protected.

If the steam is not vulnerable, then the only issue is a user on the server. Then it is an issue of rights to the file.

Do a search and you will find several discussions on this topic and the pros and cons.

One point of clarification, this is based on my understanding that you wish to encrypt the password that the pool uses to connect to the database. If it is about storing encrypted passwords in the database, then as far as I know the pool has no bearing on this and is why I responded as I did.
