No, the /* is not a placeholder.  It's an actual url-pattern that
applies to all resources under a webapp.

The connector I referred to was in your server.xml file: you're using
one whether you know it or not.  It's a bit misleading because of the
name, but I was not referring to an Apache-Tomcat connector such as
mod_jk.
