Both :).
mod_proxy_ajp is just an protocol handler like http or ftp.
Integration is another subject, and is more close to Tomcat
developement.
I'm currently working on mod_proxy_ajp and proxy_balancer
documentation, so this week you'll still need to read
the source code or browse the httpd-dev-list archive for
setup directives.
