You say that JDK 1.5 is "seemingly" installed in that directory. What's
in that directory, and does your user have read/execute permissions on
the proper files?
Furthermore, are you certain you've properly set JAVA_HOME?
What happens if you type
echo $JAVA_HOME
on the command line?
