For Tomcat 4.0 the reference information on server.xml is about 90%
complete, but there is little in the way of "user's guide" sorts of info
yet. The docs are under the "General Tomcat User Documentation" link when
you start up Tomcat 4.0.
Documentation like that you are asking for is always highly in demand, and
contributions from people who have blazed the trail of understanding this
stuff are very welcome.
