The most important ingredient in getting this fixed is to report it to the
bug tracking system, so that the developers will see it:

preferably with a small reproducible test case -- but even a bug report
that is not easily reproducible is better than nothing.
Messages on the mailing list don't always get the kind of prompt attention
you would want on an issue like this. Just as a case study, I'm several
weeks behind on TOMCAT-USER mail (due to an insane travel schedule over
the last two months, plus some "day job" deadlines), and this is the first
I've heard about problems in this area.
