Basic Doubt

Hi,
I am using Apache with Tomcat ..
how are the requests shared between apache and Tomcat ..
If I access the servlet as http://Hostname:8080/servlet/Servletname ..will 
the request be served by tomcat or Apache ..

In what cases the request is served by Apache
