Thanks Daniel for your reply. Yes, I experienced the exact same problem with the infinite loop and the error log being pumped full with the same error message. I think it would be a good idea to open up a bug report if you dont find the problem on bugzilla.
Another question, how would you provide a relative path, if you are on Windows, and Apache and the application are on different drives, i.e. D:\ and E:\ respectively?
