I thought 443 was SSL port. I have configured Tomcat standalone to listen to 443. Download and made available javaSSL_jsse-1_0_2-gl.zip. Created a simple certificate as per the docs.
It works just fine. I fire requests like HTTPS://mysite/mywebapp/mycontroller and off it goes. If you are using Tomcat as a container for Apache and have SLL running on Apache I do not think you need do anything else. Apache will take care of encrypting the response from Tomcat.
