Hi John, Thanks for the help, Tomcat is now picking up the files in the subdirectories of the WAR files successfully.
I have found JAR cvf works, ANT works (very well as you said, and is a very nice product!) and WinZIP doesn't work properly, possibly due to the META-INF file or other information in the zip not being in the correct format.
