Ok, you need to put the classes12_01.jar file in the ~/common/lib dir also.
On install, the classes12_01.jar is in the ~/lib, which is NOT enough to get the JDBCRealm working with Oracle. WHY you need that jar in both places: ~/lib and ~/common/lib is still a mystery/issue! Could anyone shed some like on this issue?
