I think I figured out what was wrong. It was with web.xml. Since I didn't see any JSP entries in the $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/examples/WEB-INF/web.xml, I merely copied it over to my own directory and deleted all the tags concerning servlets and EJB's. Now my JSP runs fine from my own directory. I still don't know what should go into web.xml but that seems to be it for the time being. Now for another question: is there a special location for tag library definitions (.tld's)? I wrote a version of my program that uses a tag library but I can't seem to get it to run..... (if it isn't one thing it's another).
