I'm not 100% sure, but, seeing as how you're running Apache2, it could be that you will have to compile. Also, another point to make, I had problems at some point with my libc version - but I'm almost certain this is when I was running 6.2. 7.3 (although it has some slight annoyances :-/) seems to run TC/Apache fine - and the provided modules you speak of seem to work fine.
