If you have something under "example" and "example" is mapped to the AJP13 connector, requests for /example and anything under it are going to be served by tomcat. That's the point of the connector, to distribute the requests to a particular area based on URL. Since servlets don't have file extensions, there's really no other way other than URL for apache or a connector to know which requests need to be served by tomcat.
I think if you want apache to serve that content, you have to put it someplace other than "/example". Can anyone else confirm this?
