Nathan, The Tomcat homepage says that "Version 4.0 implements the final released versions of the Servlet 2.3 and JSP 1.2 specifications. As required by the specifications, Tomcat 4.0 also supports web applications built for the Servlet 2.2 and JSP 1.1 specifications with no changes."
So it looks like 4.0 will support your webapps. Check out the new server.xml and the docs. You can read the specs here: http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/first/jsr053/index.html A check of bugzilla for any outstanding or serious bugs against the version of Tomcat 4 you are thinking of migrating to would be helpful. Beyond that, your best bet would be to download it and see what breaks when you move your webapps to the development environment.
