Robert i think you are missing what he's asking. (Or I am...) Tomcat / Apache will not be able to send **ANY** error message as he has unplugged the network cable.
the problem ( or bug ) that he has noticed is that if he clicks on an HREF when the servers not there ( ie unplugged turned off etc) IE gives an error message.
