Well, post details of what you tried, and why they didn't work (i.e. what happened/didn't happen). Frankly, I see no reason that any of the previously discussed solutions wouldn't work (assuming they're for the right version of Tomcat, different versions have different ways of doing this). If you're using different versions of Tomcat (e.g. 3.* and 4.*), there may be no one general solution that works, because their mechanisms for doing this differ.
