Are the class files in ..server/lib still present ? Is there a syntax error in the server.xml file ?

Once I comment that out and try to start, I get a NullPointerException. I know that's not much to go on, but I'm stumped. I've been using 4.1.12 successfully for a couple weeks, and suddenly it decided to crap out.
