You can set soTimeout by either 'connectionTimout="<ms>"' for the legacy Ajp Connector, or 'channelSocket.serverTimeout=<ms>' in jk2.properties for the Jk2 Coyote Connector.
When I played with this, my performance went down (for a moderate web-site). However, your performance may very.
