The differences between 3.3.1 and 4.0.x are pretty much everything ;-). The differences between 3.3.1 and 4.1.x are only slightly smaller. If you have custom components (e.g. Realms, Interceptors), then you should consider the move to 4.1.x to be an entirely new software platform (since none of your old stuff will work). Otherwise, the move should be pretty smooth (since TC 4.1.x will degrade nicely to v2.2 Servlet apps).
