Thanks i will have a look, but i scrapped hat attempt and tried 4.1.20
to see if it rectifies the problem.
but now i get the error....

INFO: APR not loaded, disabling jni components: java.io.IOException:
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.20-LE-jdk14/common/lib/libjkjni.so:
libapr-0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have libapr-0.so.0 just not sure where is should be..

arrrgh!!! cant win! are well will keep trying
