The rpm is very different, and mysteriously only has .jar files in the /bin directory. I believe you'll find tomcat startup commands in /usr/bin, but you can check the initialization script in /etc/init.d to find the commands for sure.

I wrestled with the rpm for a while, but switched to the binary distribution based on many suggestions from this list. Exactly nobody was able to help me with the rpm. I recommend using the binary version.
