Howdy,

there
>any major differences between standalone and plugin installation?

Yes, major differences. You have to install the front-end, e.g. apache,
as well as tomcat, and configure the connection between them using a
connector such as mod_jk. This seems to be troublesome for many people
for various reasons.

>2) can TomCat serves "html files" besides Java Servlets?

Yes.

>3) using TomCat as standalone, is there any security issue?

Compared to using tomcat with Apache front-end? Probably no more no
less security issues in the grand scheme of things. You always have to
worry about security, minimize the openings you give, run as a server
user with minimum permissions, audit your systems regularly, keep logs,
etc.

>4) TomCat will deny the download of the java classes of my serlvet,
right?

Yes. Classes are placed under the /WEB-INF directory of your webapp,
and the server disallows access there. All clients see is the HTML
output of your servlet, as if they accessed an HTML page.
