Let me answer that myself and see if anyone corrects me. Apache 2.0.45 is still a multiprocess application using the worker module. Thus, presumably eash process has a copy of the mod_jk2 endpoint in memory, all of which must remain in sync for certain operations thus requiring the use of shared memory and the shm file.

What is the shm segment of the workers2.properties file for? Is it actually used for a pure channel socket/lb configuration? jk2 2.0.2 Tomcat 4.1.24 Apache 2.0.45 Thanks!
