This should go to Apache Mailing List propably.

Apache 2 has its own mod_ssl included.
You still need an installed OpenSSL to use mod_ssl,
as how to configure:

httpd-2.0.45 # ./configure --help|grep -i ssl
  --enable-ssl            SSL/TLS support (mod_ssl)
  --with-ssl=DIR          SSL/TLS toolkit (OpenSSL)
