Tom, On my own system, I use one mount point /a for msdos-formatted
disks, and /fd (/fl is just as good) for ext2 formatted disks.

No, definitely not possible.
This is what happens for the default original boot image for RedHat
5.1 on some (not all) systems. There is a replacement image available
at ftp://updates.redhat.com/

Yes, but you'll have to loop-mount the image in the CDROM. Useless
exercise really :-)

Not at all... redhat is glibc6-based, so is the installation program.
