I use Linux at work. I have SuSE distribution and only thing related to the
network setup I had to do is during the installation I said yes dhcp option.
I can access other UNIX machines and do things like compiling, telnet,
ftp, html, printing etc, etc ...

Other engineers at my company use NT. Network connection is set for them
by IS department. The software we work on is on the Sun servers and we
access them over the network. I use tomsrtbt for mainaining my workstation
and to promote Linux among my friends.

At home I have DLS connection with static IP. I use Windows and Linux for
accessing Internet and work. I used SuSE installation - no problems.

Today I work (that is I am going to :> ) at home with static IP
so I skipped 1-4. (I tries the dhcpcd work yesterday with no luck)

I changed DOMAIN to bellatlantic.net,
DNS_1 to default DNS from my ISP,
IPADDR to my static IP,
NETWORK to IP of Gateway (I have no other IP
given by my ISP)

rebooted

I see the my ip address as set in settings.s
but ping says network is unreachable on any of those
IP addresses.

I tried ifconfig eth0 up <IP of default gateway>

Still no luck,
route says:
kernel [routingtalk? I cannot read my handwritting]
destination loopback, Gateway *, Genmask 255.0.0.0
Flags U, MSS 3584 Window 0

Sort of. I have to harry to do my work. They are getting restless
about some urgent bug.

I will check my private e-mail i a couple of hours if I can.

Cheers.

P.S.
Tom, I know from experience that if one knows some topic very well it
is hard to understand the difficulty for someone else. Man pages are
wonderful if you already are familiar with the stuff. I my opinion
the good ones are with real working samples instead of "elegant"
abstract definitions.
P.P.S.
Tom, keep doing great job. I appreciate anyway.
