The version of mkdosfs packed with tomsrtbt 1.7.316 appears to
segfault and do nothing to the partition. It took me a while to
diagnose the problem because I was not killing off the partitions
separately on my test computer. So I always got the partition intact
after running my test script. Oops. But the original data are still
there, and should not be if mkdosfs is doing its job.

Here is how I am running it:

echo
echo formatting and checking /dev/hda1
badblocks -c 128 -o /tmp/dev.hda1 /dev/hda1
mkdosfs -l /tmp/dev.hda1 /dev/hda1
