This might have the explanation:
http://ta.twi.tudelft.nl/DV/Staff/Lemmens/libretto70ct.html

I think you'll need the floppy diver listed on this web page complied into
the kernel.
50CT's have 16MB, expandable to 32MB, so I can't see the memory being the
problem.
The 50CT and 70CT are almost the same. (The 70CT has a faster processor) so
the above website should be valid for a 50CT .

I've got a 50CT but I've not had to use Tom's boot disk on it (yet) so I'd
be interested to hear how you get on.

Subject: [tomsrtbt] Problems at boot time

        Hi,

I've used tomsrtbt for a long time now to solve many issues with
desktop computers. The other day, however, I tried to use it in an old
Toshiba
Libretto 50CT, which uses a PCMCIA floppy, and tomsrtbt hanged: the first
part
of the boot process went fine, but it stopped when loading /usr (IIRC PCMCIA
drivers/utils are loaded AFTER /usr gets into memory). Does anybody know how
can I solve/get around this? TIA
