Hi there Tom and friends,
Ive read the latests mails about doing specifical
"How-I-did-this" documents, and I think its a very
good idea... because sometimes is difficult to find
something specifically in the mail archives search
engine.
Tomsrtbt its not only a rescue Linux boot/rootdisk,
it could be useful for all this people that want to
learn Linux (specially because it doesnt modify the
previous OS installed in the machine... normally
Windows).
And think about Linux admins (or less skilled users)
were are not allowed to install it at work, but they
want how to build a small but powerful Linux OS when
something crashes (normally Windows) and connect it to
the LAN work for make backups and so on.
Even can be used to dimoster Unix-sceptical people of
what it is possible to do with a single floppy disk,
or make hardware testings in and/or between i386
machines.
In this part we all can colaborate, for example I used
Tomsrtbt successfully to backup my personal data from
a NTFS partition to a KingByte LPT to IDE adapter with
a HDD connected to it. I will write how I did it if
you all think it could be interesting (and add useful
links to visit if you want to know more about LPT to
IDE adapters in Linux).
Well, I think thats all. See you! :-)
Gilles Referner.
