  How about this change:

# rsh hostname
can't exec /usr/bin/rlogin, trying telnet
Trying 10.34.76.1...
Connected to hostname
Escape character is '^]'.
login:

You can possibly even set the 'USER' environment variable to the host
if it's easy.
