[tomsrtbt] Building under RH7.3

I don't seem to be able to run tomsrtbt's /bin/lilo from Red Hat 7.3. I have 
no problems doing it under Debian Woody or Conectiva 8. Is this a gcc- or 
glibc-related problem? Note that I prefix the call with 
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<where initrd is mounted>/lib .
