[tomsrtbt] pcmcia wavlan card support?

hi there:
        I tried to use tomsrtbt on dell inspiron 3500 with a lucent
        technologies wavelan pcmcia card,  the model is "PC24E-H-FC",
        I used the wavelan_cs.o and wavlan_cs.o from the add-on directory,
        the way I did this is:

        boot tombsrtbt,
        cp an existing wavelan2_cs.conf from another running machine 
        to the laptop /etc/pcmcia/ (by using a floppy)

        copy the wavelan_cs.o wavlan_cs.o from floppy, put them in 
        /lib/modules,

        killall cardmgr

        cardmgr

        then cardmgr says :
        cardmgr[105]: get dev info on socket 0 failed: Try again

        I tried both wavelan_cs.o and wavlan_cs.o,

        same case, I don't know to use the modules, do I have to actually
        recompile the kernel and set it to "M"??
        if so, how can I do it? ( seems like reinventing the whole thing
        from scratch since I'm using libc6 )
