Not sure, um, it may have something to do with the different kinds of pseudo-terminals, or maybe it is wanting terminfo instead of the termcap included on tomsrtbt, or maybe there are capabilities of the terminal definition that it needs. The "linux" value for your console is correct and shouldn't be part of the problem.
