BTW, for the 12.1 migration, the change to constant strings seems
to have caused more bugs in ON than the hsfs optimizer issue (at least
bugs we've found so far). Of course, this means the code wouldn't work
with gcc either, so tends to affect ON more than the consolidations full
of external open source code that has to work with gcc on Linux & BSD.
Examples I've seen go by:
6998700 ls --color auto|always causes SEGV and coredump
7002842 SIGSEGV with snv153 and lpfilter compiled using sunstudio12.1
7003090 crypt dumps core (overwriting a string in read-only memory)
