I know that "OpenTeamware" project has achieved its milestone 1
(please, see the announcement below; it was sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] alias).
The binaries and sources are available for internal use. Standard
TeamWare tests
show that the quality of the binaries is good (there are several
failed tests, but they
are not critical), so these binaries can be used as a candidate for
contest.
This version is expected to show very good performance in "update"
transactions,
especially in case the workspace is large, and the changes are
small (less than 10%).
Is it going public? It's almost a year since was first mooted
during the pilot.
Yes, I think it is going public, though there is still a question:
what for? :-)
To continue the development? To use in OpenSolaris development?
To use internally in Sun for Solaris, Java, Sun Studio and other
projects?
If OpenSolaris will use another DSCM, it is probably ok, though one of
the major points will be lost :-)
Well I'm a Teamware user and there are a couple of additions I'd like
to make. One thing we discussed way back was adding support for
distributed bringovers and putbacks, I got fed up emailing tar files
back and forth when I was working off site.
If you have only email connection, there is a special tool (SyncTool),
which can automatically synchronize TeamWare workspaces over email.
It was used for a long time to synchronize hundreds of workspaces between
USA and Russian teams, which were not in SWAN. It can synchronize a
Solaris ON workspace in 5 minutes.
If you have HTTP access, there is another tool - "RemBo" (remote
bringover).
If you have rsh or ssh access without password, there is a prototype of
"RemBo2",
which can synchronize a Solaris ON workspace in 1-2 minutes (depends on the
speed of connection).
Unfortunately all the tools mentioned above are not in OpenTeamware
sources yet,
and I cannot say when they will be there.
Is the GUI part of the package?
Yes, GUI tools are included, but they were not built. They were simply
taken from another version. I did not check if they need any license.
Thanks,
Nik
