Greetings one-n-all, I just pushed a changeset which makes two important changes to the way we handle background hooks and notifications.
First - we're now using fork+exec rather than subprocess to run bghooks. This gets us around the obnoxious behaviour noted in http://bugs.python.org/issue5099. Secondly - we're now using smtplib as the primary interface to your system's MTA, leaving direct invocation of sendmail as the fallback.
