How to translate the placeholder attribute of a input element?

I've tried this:

<jabberID {
*name:        "Jabber ID"
 placeholder: "test...@example.org"
}>

<input type="email" placeholder="y...@example.org" data-l10n-id="jabberID">

But it seems not to work. How do I achieve this?
