UA9YAB, Alex, a Topband op from Asiatic Russia passed away last week. The following was in The Daily DX. 73 Bernie
"UA9YAB, Alexander A. "Sasha" Vedernikov, passed away August 11th. It is not exactly clear what the cause was as there are reports it was a heart attack while swimming and another saying he drowned. Alexander was 50 years old and was on a DXpedition to Margarita Island, YV7/UA9YAB and Los Roques, YV5/UA9YAB at the time. A friend describes him as a "skilled and experienced operator on phone and CW." He was known for his operations from various former ex-Soviet republics and Mongolia. His home in Biysk was near the Mongolian border. He was active in January as XU7AEQ in Cambodia. Left behind are his wife Natalia and two children, the youngest only three years old. At QRZ.RU donations are being accepted to raise the $30,000 to have his body returned to Russia from Venezuela."
