All - I think I owe many of you an apology. This "naming names" thing didn't work out so well. First - one of the "names" was wrong. :-)
I think in the future - it would be best for people to work 1:1 when they have issues like this. I think it is much better than trying to do it in an open forum like this. A good example is a station that I was having some problems with a few hundred miles away. I took the following steps. 1. Found out if other people were having the same issue (they were). 2. Contact the person. 3. Helped them "hear" what I was hearing (which took some effort). 4. Having them fix the issue. 5. Helping them verify that the problem is fixed. If you skip step 1 - you really have a tougher time convincing the person that there is a problem. In this case - the problem was some instability in their auto-tune amplifier that occurred whenever they started up a transmission. Turning off the auto-tune function eliminated the issue. Communication is the key to solving the issues. Don't look to this reflector to do it for you. However, general comments are probably still of some value to test and see if #1 is true. Thanks.
