This is not true- higher sample rates are just as effective in reducing overload as higher bit resolution. The higher sample rates reduces the probability of multiple signals happening at the same time and overloading the ADC. In addition, the higher rate allows for capturing smaller increments in signals and as the delta becomes smaller you need fewer bits.
