Also thanks to Martin, OK1MCW for pointing out the half delta loop antenna from VE2CV that would also seem relevant to my interests. Apparently, in the words of Kip, W6SZN (and paraphrasing K2CJ), I'm "...thinking of the article by Ted Algren, KA6W, that won first place in an ARRL antenna design competition. Ted tells me that his article is scheduled for publication in the March 2018 issue of QST." This sounds right. I must've seen this antenna design mentioned elsewhere--perhaps on a blog site or social media page--and couldn't quite remember where to find it again.
