Never seen uhf connectors in military. Lots of N tho
My two 500 foot RG-216 military surplus cables both eventually exhibited retracted pins on the type N connectors at both ends. I replaced them with PL-259's. My 150 foot RG-218 military surplus cable had type N connectors with captivated center pins. However, the center conductor of the coax eventually retracted from the internal socket that the connector received the cable with. Of course, the RG-218 is way too big for a PL-259. So I had to disassemble the type N, expose more center conductor, and then reassemble. Fortunately, it is of the "clamp" style and hence reusable. The RG-218 has been hanging from my 106 foot tower using a Kellems grip for around 10 years. It also coils or uncoils whenever the tower is cranked down or up. Success anecdotes about install once and never touch again commercial sites are probably not relevant to ham applications.
