On my Kubota BX1500 48" mower it was snapping 1/2" steel spindles when I hit a rock or stump. After spending hrs and $$ replacing spindles I replaced the belt tension spring can now mow any grass and hit any solid object with no damage. You have to find the right spring. Springs from trampolines are a good start
