Christoph; It really depends on what you intend to do with the
equivalent class definition. You can certainly use the
owl:equivalentClass text box in the form for your local Traveller
class. This means that all members of :Traveller are also members of
umbel:Traveller (where umbel is the appropriate UMBEL namespace). But
if you do not import those individuals, then it's not much more than
documentation.

You can copy resources from UMBEL into your ontology. Just make sure
that the full URI remain intact and you will be assured that you are
referring to resources in the UMBEL ontology.

UMBEL also seems to have a SPARQL endpoint. You can use that to query
for what you want to bring into your local ontology. In TBC 3.0 you
will be able to use SPIN to define a rule that would query the SPARQL
endpoint and construct the triples in your local ontology. The added
feature here is that the query can be associated with a class
(Traveler in this case) and executed as part of your local ontology's
inferences.

Not sure that gets to the question, but these are likely starting
points.
