Dear users,

We are pleased to announce the first public beta release of TopBraid
Composer 3.0, Standard and Maestro Editions.

It is available for download from
http://www.topquadrant.com/topbraid/composer/tbc-3.0.0.html

This is the first public release of TopBraid since version 2.6.2 in
August
2008. Since last release we have made substantial improvements to the
products and also made significant changes to our development processes,
enabling TopQuadrant to better respond to the needs of our rapidly
growing
customer base. We have increased the size of the product team (among
others,
the Jena architect Jeremy Carroll has joined us from HP Labs) and we
have
better aligned the different facets of the TopBraid Suite product
family.

Our new release strategy is to have fewer releases than before, but to
subject each release to a more rigorous test process. For 3.0 this
process
includes two rounds of beta releases. We expect the second beta to
come out
in January and the official 3.0 release in February.

Major new capabilities in TopBraid Composer 3.0 include:
- Support for the SPARQL Inferencing Notation (SPIN) [1]
- Incremental SPARQL-based inferencing using SPIN
- Constraint checking at edit time using SPIN
- Support for named graphs in AllegroGraph and Sesame 2
- Forms now contain incoming reference (inverse) widgets
- Significant improvements to SPARQLMotion/Web services
- Support for sharing SPARQL queries on SPARQLpedia [2]
- Numerous bug fixes and performance improvements

Beside Composer the TopBraid Live and TopBraid Ensemble products have
undergone a major redesign. These changes will be rolled out
incrementally
over the beta phase. Beta 1 includes significant improvements to the
TopBraid Live's web services support via SPARQLMotion. Starting with
Beta 2
a personal test version of the TopBraid Ensemble will be bundled with
the
TopBraid Composer Maestro Edition. TopBraid Ensemble 3.0 has evolved
from a
specific application to an application assembly toolkit. Users can
select,
configure and wire components to quickly assemble a variety of dynamic
model-based Rich Internet Applications.

Please read further details and the installation instructions on the
download site.

Kind regards and best wishes for 2009
Holger & the TopBraid Suite development team
