Very good point, and just to repeat it and clarify it: Many people
coming into the Semantic Web field believe they "need" OWL DL and
Tableau reasoners to do useful stuff. However, there is a significant
"price tag" attached to those technologies. Especially on large models
and databases, many OWL DL inference engines do not scale well.
Furthermore, the expressivity of OWL DL is often not sufficient to
express knowledge in a way that allows users to get interesting
results back. Writing smart SPARQL queries (with a bit of on-the-fly-
inferencing such as rdfs:subClassOf*) is often a much more expressive
*and* faster alternative.

With this in mind, I encourage you (and everyone else who starts
semantic web projects) to review whether you really "need" OWL DL
inferencing to express what you want and to drive your application.
