Tim,

I think it's "dangerous" to automatically close any modified files.  
The current policy is to leave them open with a (*) behind them to  
indicate that they contain unsaved changes. A quick save all in the  
end gives the user a better control IMHO.

But I see the underlying problem - the system in fact open too many  
files than necessary. I have fixed this for the 3.0 release, so that  
only the directly checked files will be opened.
