Hi CF, thanks for sending me the files. They work fine for me, but I am concerned that you have placed both the Java project and the SPIN file into the same workspace. In fact you need to have two workspaces: the Java workspace (and Eclipse) and then the TBC runtime. After editing the Java sources, launch another Eclipse instance, using the plugin.xml start page -> Launch Eclipse Application. This will then use another workspace, in which you can then work with the .spin. file. I ran it with geotravel, created some integer values for hasZipCode and your function then returns the maximum zip code (oh how useful :) ).
I hope that helps. We will revisit the documentation to see if this procedure has been explained clearly enough.
